The RSL WA held a series of Sunset Services for soldiers who served in the 1914-1918 war.

The videos below are about or include members of the 11th Battalion, and are featured in the WAGS 11th Battalion project.

100 years ago today - November 9, 1914

The German raider Emden was creating havoc in the oceans, and a watch was out for her whereabouts.

News came in whilst the AIF convoy was en-route that the Emden was close by, HMAS Sydney steamed away from the convoy to tackle the menace. HMAS Sydney did battle with SMS Emden near Cocos Keeling Islands in the Indian Ocean, the sea battle ended in favour of the Sydney.

Fleet sails to destination unknown

Troops on board 300x274On this day November 1st 1914, 100 years ago today, the Soldiers of the ANZAC force sailed in convoy from the Western Australian port of Albany.

They travelled up the coast of WA and on November 3 picked up the two troopships, HMAT Ascanius (A11) and HMAT Medic (A7), which had embarked from Fremantle with the 11th Battalion on the 31st October.

Includes the now famous 11th Battalion Cheops photo opportunity and the Gallipoli Campaign.

11 Btn Cheops smlSome of the men in this 8 minute video are known to be in the WW1 Cheops Pyramid photo of the 11th Battalion, others are possibly there and not yet identified.

Some of the men shown are known not to be in the photo and joined the 11th Battalion after the photo was taken. Many of these men paid the supreme sacrifice at Gallipoli, and at the Western Front.
